Tornado warning issued

According to the National Weather Service, at around 2:49 p.m. Sunday, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Freeborn, or 13 miles northwest of Albert Lea, moving southeast at 20 mph. Around 3:10 p.m., the severe storm was located near Alden and Albert Lea.
A tornado warning has been issued and the sirens were sounded before 3 p.m. The warning was initially expected to be in effect until 3:15 p.m., before the Weather Service extended it to 3:45 p.m. The dangerous storms, according to the Weather Service, were expected to be near Freeborn around 2:50 p.m., Hartland around 3:05 p.m., Albert Lea 3:20 p.m. and Twin Lakes 3:35 p.m. including the following highways: Interstate 35 between mile markers 4 and 11 and Interstate 90 between mile markers 148 and 155.
Out of precaution, those in affected areas should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris, the Weather Service stated.
