A few of the outdoor warning sirens are not working in Albert Lea, according to a press release.
City staff are in the process of fixing the sirens and hope to have them functioning as soon as possible.
The siren on Front Street near Sibley Elementary School’s pulley is not functioning properly and needs to be repaired. This should be fixed in the next week. The siren alarms but does not rotate.
The siren on North Bridge Avenue on Hoeger Lane’s rotation motor was struck by lightning and is not working. The city stated it should be fixed in the next two weeks.
The siren at Crossroads Boulevard and Ross Drive’s main computer board was damaged over the winter and was removed. It was sent to the manufacturer for repair, but it takes an extended time to receive parts, the release stated. This siren will most likely be inoperable for the 2019 season.
The release reminded residents that outdoor warning sirens are meant to be heard outdoors, and people may not hear them while indoors. A weather radio or app is preferred.
