Editorial: Pay tribute to the senior citizens in the area

Wednesday is National Senior Citizens Day, a day to recognize the achievements and positive contributions made by senior citizens to communities all over the country.
The United States Census Bureau in 2018 estimated 23.9% of the Albert Lea community is made up of people 65 years and over, and that number is only expected to rise.
While the rising senior citizen population brings some challenges, it also means there is a wealth of knowledge in the community from a group of people who have lived through many life experiences. They have lived through highs and lows in the community and have contributed to the foundation of what has made Albert Lea a great place to live.
And while they could sit back and enjoy retirement, many continue to work or volunteer, donating their time to better numerous organizations.
While the Freeborn County Fair recognizes two outstanding senior citizens each year, there are many others who deserve recognition.
Today we recognize all the senior citizens in the area who have contributed positively to the betterment of the community, whether in the past or present.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment.
