With Albert Lea Area Schools starting next week, parents are busy gearing up for another school year.
Being a parent of a child in school comes with a lot of responsibilities, several of which come at the beginning of the year. New supplies are needed for students in the classroom, along with things like book bags, lunch boxes and clothing.
Multiply these costs by the number of children in the family, and this can be a large load for parents to bear.
According to the National Retail Federation, American families are expected to spend more than ever on back to school shopping this year. The federation states parents with children in elementary through high school will spend an average of $696.70 per household this year on everything from supplies, clothes and electronics needed for school.
It is commendable to see organizations, businesses and individuals step up to gather supplies for families who may need help carrying this load.
Whether it be through fundraisers, business donations or volunteer efforts, these groups are making a difference.
We thank you for investing in educating the next generation.
