Memorial services for Gordon “Gordy” Sorenson, 94, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Shane Koepke will officiate. Interment will be at East Freeborn Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Gordy passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Community-Woodlands in Albert Lea.

Gordon “Gordy” Andrew Sorenson was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Ellendale. He was the son of Julius and Clara (Narveson) Sorenson.

He married Marlene Hatleli on Sept. 30, 1956, at East Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea.

Gordy was employed as a teenager by Roy Matson of Matson Truck Lines/Ace Transportation and worked there for 53 years. After retirement he worked for the city of Albert Lea mowing for the parks department until the age of 88.

He loved matching and flipping quarters and his morning breakfast at B&B Cafe. Gordy was a skilled wood worker, making many picnic tables, shelves and cutting out many craft projects for Marlene. He loved taking his family on vacations, especially their yearly fishing trip to South Turtle Lake in Ottertail County.

Gordy is survived by his children Kristy (Roger) Paul, Brad (Laura), Tom (Julie) and Lon (Roberta); grandchildren and great-grandchildren Chad (Tina) and their son, Chael, Brock (Mallory) and their daughter, Blayke, Erica (Brandon) Wendlandt and Drew; sister, Clarice Pence; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; brothers Norris, Warren, Hank and Stanley; and sisters Jonette Johnson and Lila Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic Hospice or to the donor’s choice.
