1. Power boat races
The Upper Midwest Power Boat Association will put on its annual power boat drag races along Edgewater Bay on Fountain Lake this weekend. The races will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Boats come from different states to compete in the races, which are free for spectators.
2. Football champs meet and greet
Albert Lea football players from the graduating classes of 1968, ’69 and ’70 will reportedly be honored during halftime in Friday’s Albert Lea football game vs. Faribault. The players were part of the teams to win state championships in 1967 and ’68. The players will be introduced during halftime and will be available for a meet and greet before the game. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students, with Albert Lea students getting in for free.
3. Pheasant and Habitat banquet
The 44th annual Freeborn County Pheasant and Habitat banquet will be Saturday in the 4-H Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. A social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The $20 tickets include a meal and chance to win one of the 10 grand prizes. Food will be provided by Smokin’ Bros, and Jim Hansel will be present, as he will have prints raffled off, in addition to the other items being raffled. 4. Craft show
Northbridge Mall will host a “Summer’s End” one-day craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the mall. Over 30 vendors and crafters were reportedly signed up as of press time to have items for sale.
5. ‘For Love Alone’
“For Love Alone” highlights work from textiles artist Maggie Thompson and explores themes of grieving, loss and Thompson’s Native American Ojibwe heritage. It will be on display through Oct. 26 at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative, which is open 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
