According to the National Weather Service, Freeborn and Mower counties are under a tornado watch through 10 p.m. Monday. Waseca, Blue Earth, Faribault and Steele counties are forecast to have potentially severe weather as well, but are not under a watch or warning at this time.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through the area tonight, the Weather Service stated, and there is a risk for severe storms across southern Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats, though an isolated tornado can not be ruled out, mainly across southern Minnesota. In addition, there is reportedly a risk of excessive rainfall and flash flooding tonight from southeast Minnesota into western Wisconsin.
