According to a press release, businesses often put themselves and their customers at risk because of on-the-job drug or alcohol impairment that employers are not aware of. Businesses need to learn how to spot impairment, how to deal with it and how to set up policies for supervisors to follow.

Provenio consultants Tim Harves and Brad Kramer will sponsor a free business training luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce office at Skyline Plaza. The topic of the training will be drug and alcohol impairment and how to protect employees, customers and business, the release stated.

Supervisors who have not been trained may also be hesitant to act because they fear singling out an employee or being threatened with harassment. Harves will discuss the signs to look for indicating impairment, as well as recognizing some of the differences between impairment and other medical conditions. Kramer will give recommendations on developing a guidance policy to help businesses steer clear of potential lawsuits and regulatory issues.
