Tigers pick up first win of the season

The Albert Lea girls’ swim and dive team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday night when it hosted Tri-City United.
The Tigers jumped out to a lead after winning the first event and never looked back, downing the Titans 90-73.
In the opening event, the team of junior Jaeda Koziolek and sophomores Aliyah Studier, Brooke Hanson and Leah Rognes took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:11.27.
Sophomore Taya Jeffrey followed it up with another first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.83. Senior Odelia Jensen finished with a time of 2:38.51 in second place.
Studier and eighth grader Hatty Adams took second and third in the 200-yard individual medley, with times of 2:51.77 and 3:01.86, respectively.
The Tigers went on to take first place in the next six consecutive events: Koziolek in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97); sophomore Jenna Steffl in the 1-meter dive (155.90); Adams in the 100-yard butterfly (1:24.78); Hanson in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.45); Jeffrey in the 500-yard freestyle (6:25.63) and the team of Koziolek, Rognes, Hanson and Jeffrey in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:53.76).
Studier came in second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.87) before Koziolek notched another first-place medal in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.83).
Albert Lea capped the night off with a dominating win in the 400-yard freestyle when sophomore Taylor Palmer, freshman Ava Troster, Studier and Jeffrey won the event with a time of 4:25.12, more than 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
The Tigers move to 1-3 on the season and will be back in the pool Thursday when they travel to Red Wing in their first match up on the road.
