5 things to do this weekend

1. Veterans recognition supper

All veterans who are members of the Albert Lea Moose Lodge are invited to enjoy a complimentary supper from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. Veterans and one guest will dine for free. Additional guests are welcome to join for a cost of $10 per meal. Moose Lodge No. 1703 is at Skyline Plaza, 1623 W. Main St. in Albert Lea.

 

2. Young artists on display

A new exhibit featuring the artwork of United Preschool students will be on display at The Albert Lea Art Center, 101 S. Broadway. The Art Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit runs through Nov. 22.

 

3. Thanksgiving with the kitties

The Humane Society of Freeborn County is holding a cat adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Albert Lea shelter, 101 James Ave. Adoption fees are $20 for adult cats and $30 for kittens. Adoption applications will be processed until noon Saturday, and can be filled out in advance. 4. Chili cook-off fundraiser

A chili cook-off fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Lutheran Church, 22042 850th Ave. in Albert Lea, with proceeds going to the septic system fund. In addition to cash prizes, there will be drawings for a quarter beef, a silent auction, baked goods, lefse and live musical entertainment. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and under.

 

5. Jigsaw puzzle competition

On your mark, get set, assemble! The first annual jigsaw puzzle competition will happen from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Albert Lea Public Library, 211 E. Clark St. The all-ages event will challenge teams to finish the same 200- or 300-piece puzzle first. Teams can include up to four people, with teams who have members under 13 competing against each other. One team member  is required to register. The race begins at 2 p.m. sharp.
