Albert Lea athletes named to Big Nine teams

The Big Nine Conference has released its all-conference and honorable mention teams for five of the seven fall sports.
Albert Lea had nine athletes named with the honor and one coach who received a section award.
Junior Jaeda Koziolek was the lone Tiger to be named to the girls’ swim and dive All-Big Nine team. Koziolek has had a dominant year in the pool so far and will look for her fifth consecutive trip to the state meet when the Tigers head to the Section 1A meet in Rochester Wednesday afternoon.
Volleyball senior Mallory Evans was named to the Big Nine Honorable Mention team.
For the boys’ soccer team, seniors Lei Htoo and Cole Indrelie were named to the all-conference team, while fellow senior Aung Win was named to the honorable mention team. The Tigers finished 5-7-2 overall in the 2019 season with a conference record of 3-6-2.
The girls’ soccer team also had three players nominated on to the teams. Senior Turena Schultz and junior Laura Flaherty were named All-Big Nine players and senior Marissa Vogt made the honorable mention team.
The girls’ soccer team finished in the middle of the pack in the Big Nine with an overall record of 6-9-1 and a conference record of 4-6-1.
Lastly, senior Samantha Skarstad was named to the All-Big Nine team for her work on the tennis court throughout the 2019 season. Coach Karol Hansen was also named the Section 1AA Assistant Coach of the Year by her peers in the section.
The girls’ tennis team finished the year with an overall record of 2-11 and a conference record of 2-9.
The Big Nine Conference has yet to release its all-conference and honorable mention teams for football and cross country.
