On May 22, 1947, Matilda was united in marriage to Manford I. Peterson in Hollandale. She was the mother of three children: Diann, Julie and Rodney. Matilda lived on the family farm in Clarks Grove until 2002, and then became a resident of Albert Lea. Matilda was a lifetime member of Hollandale Reformed Church, where she was a member of Dorcas Circle and participated for many years in the quilting group.

Matilda loved her many jobs on the farm, which included driving the tractors and combines, gardening her large garden and mowing her large yard. If Matilda was not outside, she was inside listening to classical music, watching her stories, putting together puzzles or playing cards with her family members, but Matilda’s most favorite place to be was with her large family. Nothing made Matilda smile more than being around those she loved.

Survivors include children Julie (Thomas) VanBeek of Runnels, Iowa, and Rodney (Teresa) Peterson of Kasson; brother, John Reynen, of Belvidere, Illinois; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Matilda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Diann Young; grandson, Cory Peterson; and five siblings.
