Phyllis Bangert, 1929-2020

Funeral services for Phyllis L. Bangert will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, with the Rev. Matthew Griggs officiating.  Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and again one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Phyllis Bangert

Phyllis passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. She was 90 years old.

Phyllis L. (Peal) Bangert was born March 9, 1929, in Albert Lea to parents Edward and Elsie (Johannsen) Peal. She grew up in the Albert Lea area, attended country schools and graduated from Albert Lea High School.

She married Russel Stiehl, where three children were born.

On Jan. 12, 1965, she was united in marriage to Werner Bangert. To this union, three children were born. The couple spent many great years together until his death in 2004.

Phyllis was a member at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hollandale. Phyllis enjoyed the little things in life: camping with her family, bicycle rides and watching the deer and turkey meander up to her country home. Phyllis was a homebody, finding comfort and peace in her own home. If you came to visit Phyllis, there would always be food or goodies on the table, and her coffee was always the best! Family gatherings were always important to her.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Edward (Elsie) Peal; husband, Werner Bangert; children Gail Bangert, Gordy Stiehl, Tom Stiehl and Bob Stiehl; stepson, Wayne Bangert; siblings Lois (Francis) Peak, Dorothy (Don) Godtland and Delores (Frank) King; and brother in-law, Michael Cotter.

Phyllis is survived by her two sons, Jay (Kerry) Bangert and Carey (Kristin) Bangert; daughter-in-law, Sue Stiehl; stepdaughter, Jody (Dan) Nordstrom; grandchildren Autumn Bangert, Ashley O’Brien, Tristian Bangert, Randy Sylvara, Mark Sylvara and Steve Sylvara; great-grandchildren Mcallen, Finn and Croix O’Brien; sister, Beverly Jackson Cotter; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
