Two former Gophers were on the move in the NFL this past week, while another stayed put.

Eric Murray left the Cleveland Browns to ink a three-year deal with the Houston Texans, while De’Vondre Campbell traded his Atlanta Falcons jersey for a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Damien Wilson, who won a Super Bowl in his first-year in Kansas City, is back with the Chiefs after the team exercised its club option in his contract. Wilson made four tackles in Super Bowl LIV as the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in February.

Murray reportedly signed a three-year contract with the Texans that will pay him $20.25 million. Murray, who played for Minnesota from 2012-15, spent 2016-18 with the Chiefs before playing the 2019 season with the Browns.

Murray, who never missed a practice or game during his four-year Gopher career, played in all 52 games and started 39 at corner. The lockdown defender, who was seldom tested by opposing quarterbacks, made 192 career tackles, which included 142 solo stops.

Murray also registered 7.0 career tackles-for-loss, 24 pass breakups, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two blocks.

The versatile Campbell reportedly signed a one-year contract worth $8.5 million with the Cardinals, where he will be reunited with former Gopher teammate tight end Maxx Williams. Campbell played for the Gophers from 2013-15 after spending time at Hutchinson Community College.
Campbell played three years at Minnesota and started 27 games and played in 39. He made 208 career tackles, which included 129 solo stops. Campbell also tallied 16 career tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks, while recovering three fumbles and forcing two fumbles. Campbell also notched two career interceptions, one of which he returned 30 yards for a touchdown at Michigan in 2014.
Wilson played at Minnesota from 2013-14 after transferring from Jones Community College. He made 197 tackles in 26 games for the Maroon and Gold.
In 2014, he led Minnesota in tackles (119), tackles for loss (10.5) and tied for the team lead in sacks (4.0) in 2014. His 119 tackles are the most for the Gophers since Kim Royston made 123 in 2011. Wilson also recorded one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries en route to being named All-Big Ten First Team. He also received the team’s Carl Eller Award (outstanding defensive player) and was Minnesota’s Linebacker of the Year.
In 2013, Wilson played in 13 games and was second on the team with 78 tackles. He also recorded 5.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack.
Wilson was the first Gopher to compete in the Super Bowl since Campbell and Ra’Shede Hageman played for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2016 Super Bowl. Wilson is the first Gopher to win a Super Bowl since Matt Spaeth won the 2009 Super Bowl as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
