The Albert Lea boys’ basketball team has a chance to make school history Friday when it takes on Austin in the Section 1AAA championship game.

The two teams have already played twice this season with each team coming away with one win. The Tigers got a 72-71 win on the road Jan. 21, and the Packers got a 41-40 road win Feb. 28.

It is sure to be an exciting game as the two rivals face off again, this time with a trip to state at stake.

The last time Albert Lea was in a section championship game was in the 2005-06 season, in which they lost to Lakeville South 71-53. They won the section championship the year before in a 51-44 defeat of Faribault.

The boys have much to be proud of this year with a record of 13-13, coming off of five years before that with no more than three wins each year.

The game starts at 8 p.m. Friday at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
