Erma Leland, 1920-2020

Erma Martha Leland, 99, of Bricelyn died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at ThorneCrest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bricelyn Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bob Stover officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Erma Leland

Erma was born Nov. 15, 1920, the daughter of John and Bertha (Stiebler) Wacholz in Mansfield Township, Freeborn County.

Erma married Edgar Leland on Dec. 23, 1938, in Mason City.

She loved being outside, gardening, creating beautiful needle point, baking delicious brownies and working puzzles. Erma also loved to cook and was a good cook.

Erma is survived by her son, Dale (Margaret) Leland, of Burnsville; daughter, Barbara Leland, of Bricelyn; grandchildren: Brad (Beth) Leland of Bricelyn, Doug (Lisa) Leland of Albert Lea, Kristine Songstad of Emmons, Amy (Kevin) Crary of Eagan, Suzanne (Dan) Brandenburg of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jeanette (Chris) Dias of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great-grandchildren Seth (Jess) Holland, Trevor (Emily) Leland, Alexis (Andrew) Scholten, Elizabeth (Logan) Bauer, Liam Holland, John and Brandon Leland, Allison (Jacob) Sorenson, Jacob Songstad (Ashley Graham) and Caleb Songstad, Julia and Victoria Crary, Maxwell Brandenburg and Madeline Dias; great-great-grandchildren Wyatt, Simon and Cullen Holland, Norie and Taylin Leland, and Callahan and Madden Scholten; and sisters-in-law Della Leland of Albert Lea, Addie Leland of Bricelyn and Ada Leland of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar; son, David (Wilma) Leland; brothers Ervin, Harry, Alfred, Henry, Frank, Manville and Maynard Wacholz; and sisters Sarah Doppelhammer, Esther Doppelhammer and Frieda in infancy.
