In response to Jennifer Vogt-Erickson and Mike Kelly’s columns of April 22.
There is an old axiom “Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see.”
When you are a left-wing socialist, it’s easy to blame everything on capitalism.
Personally, I thank God for President Trump during this dark historic period. He has a firm hand on the tiller and has been way ahead of the curve at every step. He has done a fantastic job on keeping the citizens of this great country safe and informed.
Our president has followed the advice of his scientific advisers at every step. On Jan. 21, Dr. Fauci, the president’s key adviser on infectious diseases, downplayed the seriousness of this new virus out of China, yet 10 days later Trump took decisive action and closed down all travel with China, and the Democrats cried foul, saying, “Such extreme actions are uncalled for.” In fact, every action Trump has taken to isolate America from this deadly virus has been met with howls of protests from the left. Our president has been proven right and is now being accused of not taking action soon enough.
During times of national emergency, there should not be room for politics. The future of the country and its citizens are at stake, yet the Democrats are determined not to let a crisis go to waste.
I have a question for everyone to consider: How come all major COVID-19 hotspots are in cities that have been controlled by Democrats for decades? These are the highest-taxed states in the county and yet were slow to respond and woefully unprepared for medical emergencies.
In these same communities, people of color are dying at a rate of two to four times the rest of the population. It appears that the high taxes these states collect never filter down to the poorest.
Are the Democrats really concerned about the health of the poor?
Remember, Nancy Pelosi blocked the Senate’s stimulus bill for days in order to include some pet pork. I seriously doubt any of the poor people she claims to represent will ever see the inside of the Kennedy Center. Getting benefits to the poor quickly was not an important consideration.
I find it strange both Jennifer and Mike have the audacity to condemn capitalism when the majority of the richest, most powerful capitalists in America are Democrats.
The president and the governors are walking a tight rope. How do you keep the public safe and not totally destroy the economy? If we destroy the economy, we destroy the country, but then that is the goal of the radical socialist left.
If you believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, you must realize that the draconian actions taken by many of the Democrat state governors are in direct conflict with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but then they don’t care.
Benjamin Franklin said it best, “He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.”
