The partisan attacks on President Trump that we have all witnessed for the last 3 1/2 years are sickening, but especially during a time of pandemic when the country needs to come together.
State Rep. Karen Whitsett, (D-Michigan), herself a survivor of the coronavirus, said in a recent interview, “We have to put an end to partisan attacks on President Trump. Politics must be put aside in a pandemic. We have a president in the White House, and at this time right now, everyone needs to get behind the president of the United States and the vice president, and we need to simply unite together. Whatever your party is, that is neither here nor there at this time. Right now we are human beings in the USA and we need to unite.”
Whitsett and her husband both recently tested positive for the coronavirus and were treated with hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug, which they both credited for helping them recover. They also credited the president’s strong support for the drug which has shown positive results for many people with the virus.
I admire Rep. Whitsett for her honesty. As a Democrat, to have the courage to support the president publicly and enthusiastically is refreshing. I only wish we could say the same for the political partisans like Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the media who continue to play politics while the country suffers.
