The red flag burning restriction has expired for Freeborn County, and effective immediately the county will be in a variance permit burning restriction until further notice, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
The restriction does not include recreational fires, which are 3-foot-by-3-foot in size, have some type of burning ring and are at least 25 feet from a combustible source.

Because of the dry vegetation and rising temperatures, Freeborn County is in a red flag warning. Effective immediately, Freeborn County is under a burning restriction, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
No fires are allowed, other than a recreational fire, which is 3-foot-by-3-foot in size. It must have some sort of a fire ring and has to be 25 feet away from combustible material.
According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, a red flag warning means the area is experiencing critical weather conditions that are ideal for wildfire, including strong winds and minimum humidity values.
Any spark could become a wildfire under red flag conditions.
