Daily COVID-19 update: Mower County sees second COVID-19 death

Mower County continued to see double digit new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Sunday, as well as the county’s second death, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The state agency in its daily update said the county had 15 new reported cases, increasing its total numbers to 318.

The new death was a person in their 60s.

Freeborn County had two new confirmed cases and has now had 117 cases. The two new cases included a person between 10 and 20 years old and a person in their 30s. Eighty people are out of isolation in the county, and there have been 10 people who have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.

Steele County had one new case, and Faribault and Waseca counties did not have an increase.

The state health department said 13 other deaths were reported statewide, including in Clay, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties. The total deaths now sit at 1,040. Of that number, 848 resided in long-term or assisted living facilities.

There were 664 newly reported cases, increasing the total cumulative positive cases to 24,850. Of that number, 18,695 no longer need to be in isolation, and 555 were hospitalized as of today, including 257 in intensive care.

Statewide, 7,011 new tests were completed the previous day through external laboratories.
