The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Freeborn County and much of southern Minnesota for early Friday morning as temperatures are expected to dip below freezing.

The weather agency stated temperatures as low as 28 are expected, and the freeze warning is in effect from 3 to 9 a.m. Friday.

People should take steps to protect tender plants from the cold by moving these plants indoors or covering them. Frost and freeze conditions can kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, the pipes should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those with in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
