I was saddened to see that the city is considering the furloughing of librarians. As a faithful patron, I had hoped in some way it could be considered to somehow resume the lending of books, along with some of the other services they perform.
Having read that some libraries in Minneapolis and other libraries in smaller places, also, were finding ways to cope with our new reality, I was hopeful that there would be a consideration of this in Albert Lea.
It seems everywhere I have lived, when times get difficult, the library is always at the top of the list of “un-essential” things we need. I am sure I can’t be the only one that feels differently about the word “essential.”
I have no bright ideas about the way to go about this, but if others are managing it, it might be possible to at least confer with them and our librarians. Having worked with many of them, I know how creative they must be to have the job.
We are constantly hearing of ways to keep ourselves in good spirits, and find worthwhile things to occupy ourselves. For me and many others, young and old, I would imagine that books would fill that need.
Please give this a try, the library is sorely missed.
