Once while on a trip out of state, as I was driving — about hour two in — I heard my hubs say, “What are you doing?” as I crossed over the middle line (briefly). “Don’t cross that line.”

I believe each parent has communicated this to their child at some point in the parenting journey; teaching and instructing them where the line of appropriateness is.

Stay in your own lane is a term used in the business world, meaning keep your nose and body in your job description and not others.

Years ago, I remember Greggy quoting Romans 7:19 in reference to a younger family member who just seemed to always make the wrong choice. He was a good kid in desires, kind, generous and sweet, but he (mostly) often made the wrong decision. He crossed the line.

“Struggling with Sin” from the Berean Study Bible: “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do. And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.”

We all cross the line, at some point in our life journey.

John 8:7b New International Version: “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

That’s a humbling verse. What do we do with it? When we live according to the sinful nature, we have our minds set on what that nature desires; but if we live in accordance with the Spirit, we have our minds set on what the Spirit desires. When Christ is in us, our body is dead because of sin, yet our spirit is alive because of his righteousness.

Romans 8:9-10 New Living Translation: “But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. “
