Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main, Albert Lea, MN. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.
Betty was born on May 15, 1928, in Glenville, Minnesota to Henry and Mabel (Knutson) Halverson. On October 14, 1950, Betty married Philip J. (Phil) Callahan at St. Theodore Catholic Church.
Betty worked for Wilson & Co., Polly Meadows Dairy, Culligan Soft Water and Bisgaards Shoes. She was an avid volunteer for the Antique Show and funeral lunches at St. Theodore’s, the blood mobile and delivering for Meals on the Go. Crafting was a passion of Betty’s and over the years she honed her skills by crocheting beautiful afghans, various knitting projects and making homemade Christmas ornaments. She enjoyed going to auctions and when we could talk her into it, running the Sunset Saddle Club lunch stand. As a couple, she and Phil loved to go out dancing and socializing with their friends.
Betty died on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea. She was 92.
Betty is survived by her daughter Mary Callahan of Farmington, MN, sister Elaine Bjerke and sister-in-law Doris Callahan both of Albert Lea, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Philip in 2016; parents, Henry and Mabel; brother Rollin Halverson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edward (Violet) Callahan, Robert Callahan, Patrick Callahan, Anne (Roland) Casterton, Mary Ellen (Bob) O’Leary, and Byron Bjerke.
