New COVID-19 cases reported in area counties
Several area counties reported new COVID-19 cases on Friday, according to daily updates from state and local health departments.
The Freeborn County Public Health Department said three new cases were reported in Freeborn County, though information about the new cases was not available.
The county has had 243 cases since March, and two people from Freeborn County continue to be hospitalized at this time. Eleven more people were out of isolation and recovering from their illness for a total of 200 people now out of isolation.
In Mower County, cases increased by 12, and the county has now had 755 cases.
Health officials are planning a free COVID-19 testing site at the Mower County Fairgrounds in Austin for any Mower County resident who wants to be tested, even if they don’t have symptoms of the virus.
The Department of Health stated Steele County had three new cases on Friday, and Waseca County had one. No new cases were reported in Faribault County.
Statewide, 362 new cases were reported, increasing the state’s positive cumulative cases to 32,031.
Of that number, 27,709 no longer need to be in isolation, and 339 are hospitalized, including 168 in intensive care.
The department reported 17 new deaths from Anoka, Crow Wing, Dakota, Hennepin and Ramsey counties. Thirteen of the deaths were residents from long-term care or assisted living facilities.
The total deaths statewide are now 1,361, with 1,077 of those residing in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
