Marlys Jane (Butenhoff) Jensen 86 passed away suddenly at her home on Monday evening November 27, 2023. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 with visitation one hour before the service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN.

Marlys was born on May 9, 1937, to Elmer and Harriet (Schmidt) Butenhoff in Alden, MN. She grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1955. On October 15, 1955, she was united in marriage to Myron “Mike” Jensen. From this union, 2 daughters were born. Marlys worked various jobs around Freeborn County to earn her “pin money”. She and Myron lived in Albert Lea until the time of her death.

Marlys is best remembered by her family as an excellent homemaker. Her favorite thing to do was to take care of her family. Her family was her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and her family has fond memories of her hot dish and her Special K bars. She was also very competitive and enjoyed playing Farkle, Yahtzee and card games with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Myron; 2 daughters, Lori (Paul “Moose”) Meyer, Lynn Spicer; grandchildren, Nathan Westland, Sara McGuire (Nick Weyhrauch), Kelsey (David) Backhaus, Katelyn Meyer, Alicia Neely, Amanda (Jon) Knutson, Andrea Hoffman; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter on the way; siblings, Gerald (Nina) Butenhoff, Ruth Johnson, Twyla (George) Bruns; brother-in-law Gene Johnson (Elaine Burkart); many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Marlys in death are her parents; in-laws; son in law, Craig Spicer; siblings, Keith Butenhoff, Roger Butenhoff, Helen Johnson, Lois Martinson; sister-in-law, Barb Doppelhammer.
