The second of three people charged in a large fight last February in which a man was reportedly hit in the head with a golf club was sentenced Friday to one year of supervised probation and 48 days already served in jail.

Shepperd Lawrence Robins-Priestley, 32, of Albert Lea pleaded guilty in October to one count of third-degree riot involving unlawful force or violence, a gross misdemeanor, tied to the Feb. 12, 2023, incident.

In addition to the probation and served jail time, Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning sentenced Robins-Priestley to a stayed 316 days in jail for one year. If he violates his probation, he could have to serve the remainder of the jail term.

Court documents state police were called to the North Broadway parking lot the evening of Feb. 12 regarding a large group fighting. The caller stated Alexis Mae Truesdell, 19, had struck another person in the face with a bat and that others had golf clubs.     

When an officer arrived, he reportedly found the victim lying on the ground on his back with his forehead covered in blood.

In an interview later at the hospital, the victim told police he had been at the parking lot with friends when Truesdell arrived with three other people in her vehicle. He said he had brought a golf club with him for protection because of events earlier in the day involving Truesdell’s aggressive and threatening behavior.

The victim reportedly told police he saw Robins-Priestley strike him first from behind and that he was hit many times by him before Truesdell struck him with the golf club.

Truesdell last month was sentenced to two years of supervised probation for second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon, and a third person, Spencer Adam Edwards, who also pleaded guilty to a riot charge, is slated to be sentenced next month.
