The Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce is launching a new quarterly event centered around both new chamber members and residents to help them network and learn more about the chamber and the community.
Called “New Member New Resident Coffee,” the first gathering will take place at 9 a.m. Jan. 23 at The Outlet, 137 S. Broadway.
Jean Eaton, chamber membership enhancement specialist, and Shari Sprague, executive director, said they hope the event will help foster connections, introduce new members to chamber initiatives and benefits, and provide information and insight about the community.
Though centered around new chamber members and residents, anyone is welcome to attend.
“We’re trying to bring back the excitement at some of the events that we’ve had, and add — there’s many new events that Shari’s had,” Eaton said.
Sprague said they have wanted to do more for the chamber members, particularly the new members to help them know about the mission, programs and initiatives available through the chamber.
Eaton said she wanted to bring in new residents as well to help people feel welcome.
She recalled when she first moved to Albert Lea 50 years ago, there was what she called a welcome wagon and new residents club.
“That’s where new people could connect with others,” Eaton said.
She hopes the new event will also help residents feel a part of the community and ultimately stay here.
She said over the last couple years there have been many both younger and older people who’ve moved to town, and many of the younger people are working remotely.
“When people say people aren’t moving here, I have to disagree,” Eaton said.
Regarding chamber members, the chamber has had 55 new members since 2020. The organization offers memberships to both businesses and individuals.
U.S. Bank is sponsoring the event, and breakfast treats will be provided by B&B Cafe. Designs by Holly is also providing some decor.
People who plan to attend are asked to RSVP to Sprague at 373-3938 or director@albertlea.org.
