Darlene Karen Oakland, 75, of Glenville, passed away on March 9, 2024, at the Prairie Senior Cottages in New Richland.

Born on May 6, 1948, in Mason City, Darlene was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Heffel) Brevig. A 1967 graduate of Northwood-Kensett High School, Darlene was united in marriage to Robert Oakland on November 30, 1968. Together they shared 54 years, and created a life filled with joy and memories.
Throughout her life, Darlene was known for her vibrant spirit and independence. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she dedicated many years to selling Avon products. Proud of her German heritage, she embraced her cultural roots and shared her love for baking and cooking with those around her.
Darlene’s generosity knew no bounds, always ready to help others in any way she could. She adored her pets, finding solace and joy in their companionship. Her collection of owl figurines reflected her wisdom and love for nature’s creatures.
A social butterfly, Darlene delighted in spending time with family and friends and always made moments memorable with her great sense of humor (like the time she dressed up as Dolly Parton for Robert’s 50th birthday). She was constantly on the go, driving around town, shopping, and enjoying a cup of coffee. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, tending to her family and feeding the birds.
Those left to cherish Darlene’s memory include her husband of 54 years, Robert; children, Lori Tuttle and Jason (Dessari) Oakland; grandchildren, Trevor, Kailee, Ellery (Sean), Grayson, and Paisley; great-grandchildren, Georgia, Garrett, and Gavin; a sister, Barbara Peterson; brothers, Garry (LaVonne), Larry (Marcy), Kenny Jr., and Mark (Lanita) Brevig; numerous nieces and nephews, including Kim Olson, with whom she shared a special bond; treasured friends, Walter and Becky Johnson; and her beloved dog, Trixie.
In addition to her parents, Kenneth and Dorothy, Darlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Terry and Michael Brevig; a brothers-in-law, Maynard Peterson and Curtis Anderson; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Teresa Brevig, and Lavonne Anderson.
