Garage, neighbors’ homes damaged by morning fire in Albert Lea

Damage was reported Tuesday morning after a fire started in a detached single-stall garage on Louis Street in Albert Lea.
In addition to damage to the garage itself, the home, as well as neighboring homes and garages were also damaged, according to a news release.
The release states Albert Lea Fire Rescue was called to a report of the fire at 1331 Louis St. at 6:15 a.m. made by a neighbor. When firefighters arrived, they found the garage fully engulfed in flames and the fire impinging on the primary home.
The homeowner had evacuated the home safely and was outside when crews arrived.
Firefighters worked for about two hours checking for fire extension in the garage and home.
The Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted in evacuating residents from neighboring homes until the fire was under control.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, and the fire department estimated damages at $50,000.
