Elizabeth “Betty” Herplinck

Elizabeth “Betty” Eva Wacholtz Goskeson Herplinck, 94, of Northwood, formerly of Albert Lea, passed away on April 25, 2024, at the Lutheran retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services, with a visitation beginning one hour prior. Inurnment will be held in St. Theodore Cemetery.
The youngest of eight children, Betty was born on October 20, 1929, in Freeborn, MN, to the late Theodore and Elizabeth (Koep) Wacholtz. In December of 1948, Betty was united in marriage to James Goskeson and from this union, three sons were born: Michael, James, and Greg. In 1972, Betty married Jim Herplinck, joining their two families and gaining two step-children, Peggy and Gregg Herplinck.
Betty was a proud graduate of Albert Lea High School and went on to work in various roles throughout her life. Her volunteer work in the community exemplified her kind and giving nature. As a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, her faith was an integral part of her life, alongside her unwavering devotion to family and friends.
Known for her fiercely independent spirit, Betty was a loving and nurturing presence in the lives of those around her. Her infectious hugs brought comfort and warmth to many. She found joy in simple pleasures like fishing up north, tending to her beloved flowers, and watching hummingbirds in the garden. Betty also had a playful side, enjoying trips to casinos and savoring good food with loved ones.
Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her three sons, Michael (Sue ) Goskeson, James Goskeson, and Greg (Diane) Goskeson; step-daughter, Peggy Herplinck; grandchildren, Jess (Darrin), Shane, Nathan, Joshua, Damon, Deona, Judd and Courtney; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special friends, Pam, Kenny, and Jamie Pruka; and many other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Theodore and Elizabeth Walcholtz, Betty was preceded in death by two husbands, James Goskeson and Jim Herplinck; a step-son, Gregg Herplinck; and her seven siblings.
