New Bern, N.C.- Marlin “Slim” Arlo Anderson 78, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Carolina East Medical Center, New Bern, North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday May 1st, 2024, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. North, Clear Lake, IA, with Lay Pastor Al Berge officiating. Burial will take place in the Clear Lake Cemetery; with full military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake VFW post 4868. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Marlin Arlo Anderson was born March 8, 1945, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Adrian Nathaniel and Martha Odell (Marriott) Anderson. Marlin “Slim” grew up in Lake Mills, Iowa on the family farm. He graduated from Lake Mills High School.
Slim enlisted into the United States Army proudly serving his country. After his honorable discharge from the military; he met Carolyn Marie Hamor in Geneva, Minnesota; they were united in marriage on March 22, 1969; to this union they were blessed with two children. Slim worked for Winnebago, the Clear Lake Bakery and he retired from the Clear Lake High School as their custodian for nearly 30 years.
Slim loved motorcycles, John Wayne & James Bond movies. Traveling and camping with Carolyn along with taking his annual motorcycle trip to Sturgis were his favorite pastime. His greatest love was Carolyn and spending time with his family and friends.
Slim is survived by his wife of 55 years Carolyn Anderson; children Michelle (Randy) Jones, all of New Bern, North Carolina, Jeff (Rochelle) Anderson, Ellendale, MN; grandchildren, Bryon Balek, Brandon Balek, Niki Anderson, Dallas Anderson, step-grandchildren, Brent Jones, Matthew (Erica) Jones; great-grandchildren, Lilith Balek and Hunter Jones; brothers, Richard (Betty) Anderson, Raymond (Bonnie) Anderson, all of Albert Lea, MN; brothers-in-law James, Kevin and Luverne Hamor, all of Ellendale, MN; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Slim is preceded in death by his parents Adrian and Martha Anderson and one infant sister.
