Thomas Alan Hughes, 80, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the St. Johns Woodlands Campus in Albert Lea, MN.
There will be a military send off on May 1, 2024 at 10:00 am at Bayview Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN, with following a private burial immediately following afterwards.
Tom was born on September 20, 1943 to T. Floyd and Selma Hughes in Albert Lea, MN. Tom graduated from Alden High School in 1961. After graduating from high school he joined the Army, serving in the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he went to college for accounting, landing a job in the Twin Cities Area where he resided and worked until the age of 62, when he retired and moved back to Alden at the home place where he was raised.
When Tom moved back to Alden, MN, he took on the responsibility of caring for his mother and he would visit her on a daily basis at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He took great joy with her company. He also was extremely proud of his Welsh heritage sharing that his family are buried at the Cambria Township Cemetery, in Blue Earth County and he will be the last one to join the family.
Last September 4, 2024 when he turned 80 yrs. of age, he was in shock that he lived that long. He had been residing at St. John’s Woodlands Campus this past year so everyone sang and had cupcakes for his big day. It made his day and put a big smile on his face!
Thank you to all the staff at St. John’s and St. Croix hospice for the great care you gave Tom.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents T. Floyd and Selma Hughes, sister Alice Hughes, and his grandparents.
