A strong storm downed trees and power lines at various locations in Albert Lea and the surrounding area Tuesday evening, leading to numerous power outages, most of which have since been restored.
Trees have been reported down across the city, but particularly along Bridge Avenue, including some on power lines. Another wire was reported down on the 1700 block of Southeast Marshall Street.
Albert Lea Public Safety Director J.D. Carlson said officers were helping with damage assessment on the south side of town, but from initial assessments the majority of the damage in town is along Bridge Avenue in the area of Richway Drive and Eastgate Road.
Outages were being reported in Geneva and Hollandale, as well as parts of Albert Lea.
Freeborn-Mower Electric Cooperative posted on its Facebook page it was responding to outages in Albert Lea, Hollandale, Lyle and Rose Creek.
As of 7:30 p.m., almost 2,200 consumers were still without power in Albert Lea. As of 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, only about 25 consumers remained without power in the service area.
The National Weather Service ended the tornado watch early for the area, but a flood watch remained through 10 p.m.
