Joseph (Joe) Jensen, of Lubbock, TX, formerly of Albert Lea, gained his angel wings on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at United Medical Center in Lubbock, TX, after a long battle with COPD with his sister, Patricia Wilson and brother, Robert (Bob) Jensen, by his side. He was 68 years old.
Joseph was born August 17, 1955 to Minor (Clayton) and Mary Ann (Popowicz) Jensen in Queens, NY. He came from a Catholic family with 3 brothers and 6 sisters. He went to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Albert Lea until the 8th grade and then attended Albert Lea Public Schools. He lived in Albert Lea from 1960 when his family moved to Albert Lea until he moved to Lubbock, TX five years ago.
For many years, Joseph lost his way with his demons, but for the past few years, he was able to find the Glory of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and is with him now.
He loved and cared very deeply for his family, especially his fiance Chrissy, his children, grandchildren, his parents, and brothers and sisters, who also loved and cared deeply for him.
Joseph is survived by his fiance, Chrissy Coreell of Lubbock, TX; his children, Jermiah Weitzel, Albert Lea: Jade Gayton (children Javier, Claira, Chloe), Kiester; Eva Locke (daughter Cali) Wyoming; Dakota Jensen (sons, Mikel and Crawley), Blue Earth; and Jed (CJ) Jensen. Also surviving are sisters and brothers, JoAnn (Winfree) Jensen of St. Cloud; James Jensen of Sturgis, SD; Patricia (Michael) Wilson of Lubbock, TX; Joyce (Roger) Schaper of Bricelyn; Jeanette Lein of Sturgis, SD; Robert (Pamela) Jensen of Lubbock, TX; and Liz (Troy) Johnson of Albert Lea; along with many nieces and nephews, nieces-in-law, nephews-in-law, great-nieces and great-nephews, and two great-great nieces; and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Minor Clayton (1975) and Mary Jensen (2010); brother John Jensen (2012); baby sister, Elizabeth, 6 days old; maternal grandparents Joseph and Almelia Popowicz; paternal grandparents, James and Melvia Jensen; daughter, August, in infancy; nephew Hendrickson in infancy; baby Johnson in infancy; brother-in-law Daniel Winfree; nephew-in-law, Karl Cabelzela; niece-in-law Bridgette Guana; and his ex-wife Sandra (Afinson) (Jensen) Batten (2023).
Joseph was a kind-hearted person who would give his shirt off his back if you needed it and ask for nothing in return.
At Joseph’s wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be spread out in Colorado on his property he inherited from his brother, John Jensen.
A memorial will be held at Edgewater Park on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 12:30 – 3:00 pm. Please join us for a picnic to celebrate our brother and share your fond memories of him with the family.
