The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ golf team traveled to TPC Twin Cities in Blaine to play on the same course as PGA professionals alongside some stiff competition with the current No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 teams in the state, along with many other strong competitors.
The boys battled some windy conditions and shot a respectable 307, which helped them take home fourth place out of eight teams. Leading the team was sophomore Noah Teeter with a 73. Archie Nelson was close behind with a 74, and rounding out the top 4 scorers was Eli Ferris with a 79 and Nick Belshan with an 81.
With Albert Lea’s varsity players at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, the boys that typically play junior varsity got promoted to the varsity team for a conference match against Austin and Owatonna at Austin Country Club.
The boys finished in third place with a team score of 369.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Tyler Balfe with a 90. Behind him was Nathan Herr and Evan Anfinson who posted a 92 and 93 respectively. Rounding out the top four scorers was Carsson Ewing who came in with a 94.
The Tigers are now 17-2 in the Big 9. While still in first, they are only leading Mayo and Northfield by one point.
The Tigers’ next match is on Wednesday at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester, where they will play in an invitational put on by Rochester Century.
