He joined the Army in 1957 and was stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia. He continued to wrestle while in the Army. Upon discharge in 1959, he went back to Kandiyohi and helped on the farm. He and a group of friends eventually moved to Minneapolis. While living in Minneapolis he met his former wife, Shirley Hagen, a Registered Nurse from Albert Lea, MN, and they were married in 1961. In October 1962 he was hired by Beneficial Finance Corp and found his calling in Finance and Collections. He started a long career, eventually becoming a Branch Manager and moving to Albert Lea. He received the President’s Award 3 times and worked there for 21 years. In 1982 he became one of the owners of Pete Boys Bar in Albert Lea, until it was sold and he moved to Arizona. He traveled all over Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North and South Carolina and parts of Ohio and Virginia. He finished his career with Conseco Finance in Arizona, where he worked for 7 years until he retired in 2000.
Dad had a great sense of humor and loved to tease us all. He loved sports, especially baseball and basketball. He enjoyed going to the Elks or Moose Clubs and having a beer and dancing. He was very proud of and loved his grandchildren.
At the age of 82 he discovered that he had a son that he did not know about, who was born in 1960. He was thrilled to learn of this, and was able to meet him on several occasions.
