Albert Lea received just shy of 12 inches of rain during the month of June, surpassing any monthly precipitation total for at lest 20 years, according to records at Albert Lea’s wastewater treatment plant.

According to the data, Albert Lea had 11.99 inches of precipitation in June. The next highest month in the last 20 years was in 2007, when August saw 10.89 inches of rain, and in 2016, when 10.31 inches of rain fell in September.

The average precipitation during the month of June during the same span is 5.47 inches.

Albert Lea has so far this year received 26.25 inches of precipitation, already higher than the annual totals in 2022 and 2023, when there were 22.30 inches and 26.25 inches respectively.

The average annual precipitation over the last 20 years is 35.53.

The largest stretch of rain in June this year came from June 16-23, when the city received 7.24 inches. The rain led to high water on Fountain and Albert Lea lakes, as well as flooded roadways.

The treatment plant recordings also showed 1.9 inches of rain on Friday and 0.26 inches on Saturday.

The National Weather Service states a new rain threat is moving into the area later today.

Showers and thunderstorms could bring periods of heavy rain back to the area through Tuesday night.

The Weather Service warns urban street and other localized flooding is possible.
