Bricelyn, Scarville celebrating 125th anniversaries during annual events

The Bricelyn community will celebrate the nation’s birthday as well as its own 125th anniversary during its community festival this summer July 4 through 7.

There are events for all ages, including the annual Ron Sander Memorial Run, a parade, horse show, music in the park, fireworks and plenty of opportunities for food.

A medallion hunt was expected to begin June 2 with the first clue in the South Central News and also at Bud’s Cafe. New clues were expected to be added every Thursday through June 30 in the newspaper and at Bud’s Cafe. The prize is $200.

The following is the list of slated events:

July 4

5 to 7 p.m.: Pulled pork sandwiches at the fire hall, free will donation
7:30 p.m.: Free family movie at the fire hall

July 5

6-9 p.m.: Kids games at the pool
7 p.m.: Free family movie at the fire hall
8 p.m. to midnight: Music in the park
8 p.m. to midnight: B & L entertainment at the Legion

July 6

8 a.m.: Ron Sander Memorial Run registration opens with the 1-mile walk/run at 8:30 and the 5K at 9 a.m.
9 a.m.: Volleyball tournament at city park
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Dunnell Lenort performance in the park
1 p.m.: Parade (Bricelyn past school staff will be grand marshals)
Following the parade:
– Horse show at Dr. Jack Peterson’s Arena
– Free swim at the Bricelyn pool until 5 p.m.
– Sanctioned pedal pull on Main Street for children ages 4 to 11
– Schell’s Hobo Band after the parade
– Park activities, including musical entertainment, petting zoo, children’s games and antique tractor pull
2 to 3:30 p.m.: 4-H bingo at the fire hall (50¢ per game)
3 to 5 p.m.: Corn hole tournament at the Legion
4 p.m. until gone: Chicken barbecue at the fire hall
4 to 8 p.m.: Music in the park with the BeeKays
8 p.m. to midnight: Dance at the Legion
Dusk: Fireworks
8 p.m. to midnight: Dutch & Friends DJ music at the Legion

July 7

7:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Fireman’s pancake breakfast at Bricelyn Fire Hall
10 a.m.: Polka community worship by the Wedinger Band of New Ulm
1 p.m.: Antique tractor pull (Food available)

Scarville celebrates milestone anniversary with Scarville on the Fourth

Scarville is going all out this year for the Fourth of July to celebrate the town’s anniversary of 125 years. Throughout the day there will be fundraisers, food, competitions, a parade and music with the day coming to a close with fireworks.

7-10 a.m. at Scarville Lutheran School: Pancake breakfast fundraiser (free will donation)
9:30 a.m. at Scarville Bar: Bloody Mary bar
9:45 a.m. at the North end of Main Street: Kids red, white and blue bike rally
10:30 a.m. along Main Street: Scarville Parade
Following the parade will be live music by Somethin’ Country
11 a.m. at Scarville Fire Hall: Burger fireman’s lunch (free will donation)
11:30 a.m.: Pedal tractor pull for ages 4-11
12 p.m. at Scarville Bar: Pizza for sale ($5 for 1/4 large pizza)
12 p.m. on Main Street: Egg toss
2 p.m. near Community Center: Homemade ice cream sandwiches and bars
2:30 p.m.: Fire Department water ball competition
3 p.m. at the Scarville Bar: DJ after party by B&B Sound and Lights
10 p.m.: Fireworks (Fireworks set off on North side of town)
