On Wednesday, the All Together Albert Lea Inclusive Playground Committee, together with city leaders, contractors and residents, will celebrate a tremendous accomplishment of the community in bringing an inclusive playground to Albert Lea.
After 2 1/2 years of fundraising, organizers are expected to break ground on the project in a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Edgewater Park.
Contractors will begin preliminary excavation and preparatory work in the coming weeks, and then in September the playground company will begin installation of the equipment and pour-in-place flooring.
Depending on weather, the project will be ready for the community in mid- to late October.
The project is what we hope will be the first of many new opportunities for residents both young and old that will give people of all abilities the chance to play together.
We hope the playground for years to come can be a safe space for all children.
Though work will be underway, the committee still has about $50,000 to raise to reach its final goal. We hope you will get involved in bringing this legacy project to Albert Lea and consider giving if you have not already done so.
Donations can be turned in at the Albert Lea Chamber Foundation, 132 N. Broadway.
The playground will be a space many generations can enjoy together.
