My Point of View by Robert Hoffman
A week ago I spent an amazing week at the RNC (Republican National Convention), and this week looks to be a pretty fair week also!
I had the honor of being one of Minnesota’s 39 delegates at the RNC and spent the week in Milwaukee with many amazing people (and about four protesters.) It is not just a sign up and go to attend the RNC, and it is covenanted as being the Big-Show. To be elected as one of the few delegates from Minnesota is an honor. Not many from our region went.
Our neighboring Faribault and Mower counties did not have anyone attend and Olmsted County only elected one person. Freeborn County was able to send four people — two as delegates and two as alternates. Aaron Farris and I were elected to attend as delegates, and Jackson Cox and his uncle Shannon Cox as alternates. Aaron and Jackson were elected at the Congressional District Convention, and Shannon and me at the state convention. This experience is considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience and has made our Freeborn County Republicans an even stronger team.
Jackson and Aaron are 18 and 21, and Shannon and I are 39 and 46, so we span an almost three-decade spread between the four of us. (I am an elder statesman now.) Because we already know each other well and wanted to gain as much experience as possible, we did not just spend the whole week together and each took time to grow both as individuals seeking our different experiences and together building our Freeborn County team. It was an amazing week!
Because Minnesota stands an awesome chance to finally turn red this election our delegation was placed only feet in front of President Trump’s suite and just a few rows from the podium and the stage (literally directly in-between the two) each night right in the middle of the RNC floor. Minnesota is being taken very seriously this election, and Minnesota needs to take this election very seriously. Minnesota is very important to this year’s election and Freeborn County is highly regarded by the state.
From the welcoming party and opening day and throughout the entire week it was a rock concert. The speakers ranged from politicians and everyday heroes to Hulk Hogan and Kid Rock to the Teamsters Union President Sean O’Brien and Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) Dana White, and all were lock step and consistent in messaging and excitement. We have four stronger Freeborn County Republicans because of this and a clean, clear campaign ahead.
The week at the RNC was amazing, but I am looking forward to the fair week we have going on right now. The Freeborn County Fair week! Come visit our fair booth — we have a ton to talk about. First of all, just stop by to say hi. This has become my favorite week of the year to see everyone. The Freeborn County GOP booth at the fair is one of the highlights of the week, and it is always very active. We’d love to hear from you, so stop by. We’re in the same spot as always under the Grandstand, and you won’t miss our flags and 7-foot-tall President Trump “fight” cut out that will definitely end up in hundreds of pictures.
We have work to do also. Visit us at our fair booth to sign up to volunteer with the Trump and Republicans teams during the election, request yard signs, get an invite to our annual picnic coming up Aug. 12 (a day before the Aug. 13 primary election) and register to win a large tool bag given away each day of the fair in our “We Have Work To Do” daily give away.
President Trump survived an attempted assassination that could have changed the nation, and not only has it been discounted all around by much of the mainstream media, it was cheered on by many people, very much locally as well. The Minnesota DFL and local DFL consist more of the Democratic-Socialists and now Democratic-Communists then they do Farmers and Laborers anymore. They literally launched the RCA in April in Minnesota, the Revolutionary Communists of America, and amongst other things demand 20-hour work weeks, a national minimum wage of $1,250 per week, $62.50 an hour pay, support for Hamas and of course universal healthcare. Make no mistake of it, this all has connections to some in the local DFL, maybe many in its leadership and candidates’ roles.
Apparently they’ve been directed to finally stop talking about their Jan. 6 boogie monster and have some new ridiculous messaging about some far-fetched “2025 program” that has nothing to do with the GOP at all. Like I said, “we have work to do!” See you at the fair!
