Pauline married her first husband, John Kohnke, on August 29, 1964, and had two daughters together, Monica and Marnie. They later divorced. Pauline reconnected with an old friend from Glenville, Larry Nelson, and the two were married on June 9, 2018. Larry and Pauline made each other very happy, and they were always full of laughter and fun.

Pauline’s life was a tapestry of various roles and achievements. She returned to school later in life to become a cosmetologist and, with this degree, started her own salon in her home. After working as a cosmetologist for a few years and obtaining her management certificate, Pauline transitioned into teaching cosmetology at Riverland Community College in Austin, MN. Her dedication to her career was commendable, and it was clear she had a passion for cosmetology and loved being an instructor. She had a special bond with her colleagues and students.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Pauline was renowned for her celebrations and showing love for her family and friends. Holidays were her favorite celebration. She loved hosting her Fourth of July bash; she enjoyed the food, fireworks, but most of all, the fellowship of her friends and family. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, going on shopping trips, hosting family and friends, and of course, spoiling her beloved grandchildren. She showed her love by making angel food cakes for those needing a helping hand or celebrating a special occasion, remembering to send a card in honor of a birthday or anniversary, and always being there for you when you needed her. She was full of smiles and laughter.

Pauline felt her proudest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren, her husband Larry, and a legacy of friendship that touched many lives.

Left to cherish Pauline’s memory are her husband Larry; daughters Monica Wallace, Marnie (Scott) Thompson and; grandchildren Andrew (Lexie Ringoen) Thompson, Nathan Wallace, Anna Wallace, and Ellie Wallace.

Welcoming Pauline home are her parents Leon and Burnette Sanderson and sister Ramona Ericksen.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Thorne Crest, Mayo Clinic Hospice, and Pauline’s special friend, Chelsea Janssen, for the care and support.

A funeral service honoring Pauline will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 15, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with Pastor Trish Reedstrom officiating; the family will welcome visitors beginning at 10:00 AM.
