Albert Lea High School tennis coaches Therese Netzer and Olivia Schafer have been teaching a free youth tennis camp for ages 5 to 11 weekly on Monday evenings.
The camp had two sessions: the first one started on June 3 and went to June 24. A July session was also added, allowing more students to take classes weekly on Mondays from July 8-29.
Students have been learning about the game of tennis and how to improve their skills. At these camps, students have worked on better hand-eye coordination and keeping proper footwork while playing.
Alongside learning how to perfect their hand-eye coordination and footwork, students have been given the opportunity to grow in their forehand and backhand swings, fine tune their serves and improve their volley.
It is an educational way for students to learn and have fun with other students who enjoy the same sport. Around 20 kids joined each class this summer.
