5 things to do this week: Rock-N-Roll the Lakes, Relay for Life and more

Rock-n-Roll the Lakes 2024

Come at 8 a.m. Saturday at Central Park for Albert Lea’s annual Rock-n-Roll the Lakes. This year’s theme is “Back to the ’60s.” There will be 10-, 30- and 50-mile bike routes that offer a scenic and pleasant look at the city’s lakes and community. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and those taking the 50-mile route are asked to begin no later than 9 a.m. Register and find more information at bikemn.org/all-events/rock-and-roll-the-lakes.

 Glow Ride

Albert Lea will host a glow ride/night bike ride this Saturday. Come to this free community event with clothing and a bike decked out in glow sticks and lights for a fun evening. Participants will meet at the North Broadway parking lot at dusk, around 9 p.m., and the ride will begin. Youth are welcome, but those under age 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Helmets will be required during the ride.

Annual duck pluck fundraiser for Albert Lea girls’ basketball

A special fundraiser for Albert Lea girls’ basketball will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday at Broskoff Pool, located at 2191 Palmer Circle. The event will be a “duck pluck” with cash prizes on 10 of the ducks. Ducks can be purchased from Albert Lea girls’ basketball players. The cost is one duck for $5 or five ducks for $20.

Freeborn-Mower County Relay for Life

Freeborn-Mower County Relay for Life will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. The opening ceremony will have speeches by cancer survivors and caregivers. There will also be a survivor’s lap. Teams will take turns walking through the evening followed by a luminaria lighting ceremony, weather permitting. Luminaria can be purchased for $10 at the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, All the Things studio and boutique, Brick Furniture in Austin and Grinders in Austin. Glenville Days and Wells Kernel Days

Two city festivals will take place this week: Glenville Days from Thursday through Sunday; and Wells Kernel Days from Friday through Sunday. Both events will have lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
