Albert Lea Schools Back to School Festival

Albert Lea Schools will host their annual Back to School Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fountain Lake Park. Students can play carnival games like plinko, basketball toss and jenga, and parents can take this time to learn about school and community information.

Murder mystery party 

Join Events at the Broadway Saturday for a night of mystery, intrigue and ’80s fun. A cocktail hour with light snacks will begin at 7 p.m., and guests must be seated by 8. The dress code for this event is anything 80s. Tickets are $25 before tax and can be purchased at https://bit.ly/3xQFhZo

Movie in the Park 

Families are invited Friday evening to the Edgewater park bandshell for a free movie, “Trolls Band Together,” rated PG. Guests can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets or sit on one of the benches to enjoy the show. The movie will start at dusk around 8 p.m.

A Little Night Music with The Pumper, the Peddler and the Politician 

Join the Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library and Village for some live music with the band The Pumper, the Peddler and the Politician. It will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the museum. Tim Penny and the band play rock ‘n’ roll hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs and blankets. This event is free for museum members and $5 for nonmembers.

Alden Firefighters Relief Association fundraiser

Support a good cause from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Alden Fire Department. The  Alden Firefighters Relief Association will host their annual fundraiser with proceeds going to equip the fire department’s “new” pumper upon its arrival. The event is a pork chop meal that is $15 and includes baked beans, Mrs. Gerry’s potato salad, all you can eat sweet corn and beverage. There will also be free hot dog kids meals. Those who cannot attend the event but would still like to donate can send donations to P.O. Box 241 Alden, MN 56009. Checks can be made out to the Alden Firefighters Relief Association.

Wind Down Wednesday

The final Wind Down Wednesday of the season will take place Wednesday in downtown Albert Lea. Come out and check out food, artisan vendors, activities and live music in the event that runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Broadway.
