Barbara Norby

Barbara (Barb) Jane Norby, born on December 20, 1939, in Mason City, Iowa, was the beloved daughter of Alice (Bennett) and Edward Lee. Her family relocated to Des Moines before settling in Albert Lea, Minnesota, when she was just 5 years old. Barb attended Albert Lea Schools and graduated in 1958. Music played a central role in her life, as she enjoyed playing the piano, cello, and singing.
On June 10, 1961, she married Jim Norby at the First Presbyterian Church. They enjoyed 63 years making many lasting memories together.
For 40 years, Barb served as an administrative assistant for Albert Lea Schools, working at Brookside, Lakeview, and the District Office. After retiring, she continued to contribute by working part-time at CVB for 3 years.
Barb is survived by her sister-in-law, Darlene Lee; brother-in-law Tom (Sandy) Norby; brother-in-law Dick (Lois) Norby; brother-in-law Ken Hermanson; stepson Terry Norby; daughters Cathy (Rich) Lieske, Carolyn (Chuck) Johnson, and Cindy (Aaron) Miller; son Mike Norby (Julie Casebolt); and the special couple, Todd (Donna) Carter. She also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Jim Norby; her parents, Ed and Alice Lee; her brother, Phil (Sparky) Lee; in-laws Tess and Helmer Norby; sister-in-law Maryann Hermanson; and stepson Tim Norby and nieces Tammy Norby and Diane Norby.
The family invites you to celebrate Barb’s life at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea, MN on Saturday August 10, 2024 beginning at 12:00 PM; visitation will begin one hour prior. Barb will be buried with her husband, Alan, at Hillcrest Cemetery following a fellowship luncheon. The service will be livestreamed.
