The city of Albert Lea will conduct smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system in two areas of the city Aug. 12-13.
CIT Sewer Solutions of McCallsburg, Iowa, is the contractor.
Residents of the area to be tested will receive notices before the testing. The first area includes Railroad Avenue, the Kirkwood neighborhood, South Broadway from Oline Drive north to just past West Ninth Street, and portions of 11th Street and Hillcrest Road.
The second area includes neighborhoods north of 19th Street, east of Larson Avenue, including the trailer parks and areas south of 16th Street and a small portion of Myers Road.
Smoke testing identifies areas where stormwater enters the sanitary sewer system, overwhelming the capacity of the system which could lead to basement back-ups and discharges. This allows the city to plan repairs to improve the system.
