Dangerous heat followed by potential severe weather

Albert Lea and the surrounding area are under a heat advisory through Monday afternoon before conditions are expected to worsen.
A heat advisory is in effect through 1 p.m. Monday, after which Freeborn, Waseca and Steele counties will be in an excessive heat warning with heat index values up to 109 expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat-related illnesses will increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events, and people are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop over South Dakota Monday afternoon and become a large cluster as they move east.
Storms could bring damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are possible.
