Though Royce White won the statewide Republican nomination Tuesday to face off against DFL U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in November, he did not win the most votes in Freeborn County’s primary election.
According to unofficial results, Joe Fraser, 50, won the most Republican votes in the county with 397 out of 1,235 votes, or 32.1% of votes, while White, 33, received 370 votes or 30%.
Third-highest totals went to Raymond Petersen with 132, with the remainder of candidates receiving less than 100 votes.
Fraser was originally believed to be the frontrunner in the case.
Klobuchar easily won her race for the DFL nomination at the state and in Freeborn County, with 936 out of 964 votes, or 97.1% of votes, in the county.
According to the Freeborn-County Auditor Treasurer’s Office, 2,282 ballots were cast out of 18,587 registered voters for the primary, for a voter turnout of 12.28%.
