In the historic downtown district of Albert Lea, an extraordinary new history is being made by the Century Partners. This hardworking group of brilliant, young entrepreneurs is changing and charting the trajectory of our beautiful community. Another step in their vision of rescuing, renovating and reviving the crown jewel of our city, the historic Freeborn Bank building, and her sister building, the Jacobsen Building, came to fruition tonight.

We were honored to be invited as special guests of partners Robert and Angie Hoffman, to partake in the soft opening and to enjoy some of the delicacies of Cento Wood-Fire Pizzeria and Cafe.

What an exquisite night of delicious food, superb service and bustling community enjoyment. We had the opportunity to sit outside and savor the beautiful evening together with friends around the table and connect with so many others entering and exiting this top shelf, classy new establishment.

I served on the city council when we made the decision to invest in preserving these two historic buildings at a time when people thought we were crazy and reckless for wanting to preserve the history of these two gems. Tonight, as I sat and took in the sights, sounds and tastes of this upscale new gathering place, I felt a lump in my throat, realizing the grand opportunities that could have been lost. I am glad to say what is being built and realized by the Century Partners is truly an alignment of the stars for Albert Lea. In the 32 years my wife and I have called Albert Lea home, I have never been more excited about the present and future of our lovely community.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to the Century Partners who have placed their entire lives on the line, believing, risking and investing in Albert Lea. No one else could do exactly what you are doing exactly the way you are doing it, and we are so very proud of you! Destiny has chosen you for this exact time in history. You are all champions and world changers. I applaud all of your diligent efforts, and I want you to know that I love you all and I remain in your corner.
